How is your life treating you?

This last month has been challenging to say the least. You just think you are getting things a bit more organized and then you realize how much more you have to do. Now the decision is what should you do next? Nothing! Tackle a small job!! Work each day on keeping things more organized!!! This is on you. How are you going to move forward?

You can write another list with numbers according to their importance and assign them or you could put assignments on straws and have family members draw a straw and be responsible for getting that chore done. You could try putting projects that need to be done in a box and have family members draw an assignment. Problem is some assignments may be tougher than others.

Halloween went by in a flash and Thanksgiving is running to meet us. Black Friday is being toted every day. It almost makes you feel like you need to put on roller skates to keep up. Everyone is having sales and more sales.

I remember when we all started Christmas preparation, not before Halloween, but after Thanksgiving letting families enjoy Thanksgiving . The weather would be starting to change. Originally coming from Iowa, I remember Thanksgiving with snow. It was so exciting. Maybe the Holidays were hectic, and only the good things remain in my memory bank.

What about a time out day! ! Even half a day Time out from everything related to a schedule, errands, work, school etc. Only relaxing fun things can be done on that day. OK, we probably have to put a time limit on that or the whole family will rebel.

Here are some suggestions for you:

Make your home smell enchanting . Purchase a diffuser and some essential oils that makes you like relax, such as lavender. Then relax.

Find someone to watch your little ones for a morning or afternoon. You will then pay them back so they can take a time out day.

Think, do you want a bubble bath, or would you rather go to a yoga class? Do you want a massage to work the kinks out of your neck and shoulders. Don’t forget the guys here maybe they want a day out also.

Maybe you just want to take a nap without interruption, listen to some nice music or read a good book. Treat yourself to lunch out. Do something spontaneous without worrying about having to pick someone up, take someone to a doctor visit etc.

Think how refreshed you will feel and you can begin again with renewed energy and confidence.

Autumn with the trees changing colors fast.

Been a rainy weekend and beginning of a new week, not particularly cold but rainy. The trees are turning colors fast. Vibrant colors orange, red and yellow. Means there will be many leaves for some to rake. Lots of out doors work to be done. Raking, weeding, trimming, planting and for some of us we still have grass to get mowed.

It is so wonderful to watch the little ones walking in the leaves, trying to pick them up and move them around. Such delight on their faces. It must be wonderful to believe that much and enjoy things you do. It is a time to smile with them and hug and love them.

Good time to also get out your to do list. Instead of focusing on the holidays, just plain work on your house and get things taken care of that you have been putting off. How about your garage? Is it ready for the winter? Think about coming right into your garage in the bad weather. Look at things in the garage that are just waiting for you to make up your mind to do the proper thing like throw away or donate. I hope you are not someone who leaves things by the road side. Talk about helping the environment!

They always say if you have not used something in a year then get rid of it. It always depends on what that something is according to my way of thinking. It may be something I will always need. Don’t think like me, just begin and start pitching.

Do clean the garage if nothing else gets done right now. It will help with the coming season and give you a good sense of accomplishment

Traditions

We all grew up with traditions, some we really like and enjoy. Here were some of our traditions, getting up running to see what Santa brought. Making kieffles ( They are a Hungarian or Polish delicious delicacy that are very hard to stop eating). I really believe they are Hungarian. We used to bake them starting the day after Thanksgiving and it was a long day. Stopped making kieffles as family grown up and most have no time to help. They were a tradition. Easter egg hunts out the back yard when the weather was grand. Planning the big wedding, getting married and having a family. Eighteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren and we are still growing.

Making quilts for the grandchildren. They were not big quilts but almost the size of a twin bed. That tradition has been passed down and only God knows if it will become a tradition for the great grandchildren. Below is a picture (actually two pictures together to show one of the quilts). Finally got smart and had the mothers pick out the colors and fabric. The animals are a fish, a camel, a dove, a dog or a donkey, a turkey and a lion.

Two pictures showing what one of the 19 quilts looked like.

If you are interested in the directions for the above quilt, please send me your email and I will send them to you. This type of quilt has been around for many years and I found the pattern in a very old magazine. It is called the Sam Henry quilt and I have no idea where the original idea came from.

Traditions can be lots of fun to establish can be alot of fun to discuss and establish especially if you do it as a family. Older family, new family, blended family. Let everyone enter into the discussion. Why not think of it as a guessing game, which each family member has to participate. Drop all suggestions in a hat and draw.

Be sure and look at the traditions printable bundle to help you figure out the traditions you want to begin in your family. Go to my resource library for a look at the individual pages. The password is HELEN.

The tradition bundle.

Working on the big question, are you organized or not?

Becoming organized is an ongoing process and it is so easy to slip up and slide back into your old ways. Even when you know the key to a better outcome is organization and to finish one thing completely before starting another. As a multi-tasker it is difficult to change, maintain and support organization day in and day out.

We all know, or have heard about practice makes perfect, so maybe none of us has practiced enough to get the concept down in our heads or brains. Getting the bed made right away in the morning, even if no one is going to see it. Keeping the kitchen clean are two things that I am better organized at, but not much more. So my plan is to try, try again and hope I will make some progress.

You are welcome to join me in this organization thing. My plan is to focus on the paper side of things as that is what always seems to get out of hand. Here are some thoughts that have been running through my mind that might help you and me also.

  1. Going to the grocery store with a list. I am getting famous for forgetting the list, and the coupons. Went to the store for milk!! Got many other things, but no milk. LIST! COUPONS!
  2. Selecting a certain day or time to see that all bills are paid timely, automatically. Set up donations online, so that we can give when possible .
  3. Going through junk mail as soon as it comes !. Be careful that you do not throw out something important, like information from a physician’s office or some paper that has to filled out before you can get a procedure done.
  4. Try to really work harder on menu planning. It is such a pain.
  5. Work on getting my office to it’s organized look.

Organize! Yes! Why!

With all the wonderful weather we have been having including the high temperatures, we all believe summer will be here before we know it. The flowers are popping up their heads, the grass is so green and already needs cutting .

Everyone is talking about starting their garden . I say everyone but not us this year. Too much work getting the soil ready, planting, taking care of the weeds, so we are passing .

Goal is to continue organizing our home, decluttering closets, dresser drawers and the garage, getting rid of the excess we have. This last year my office got cleaned and that was considered a miracle so we will just make sure more miracles continue to happen.

That means also cleaning out cupboards really well, because they are overloaded with excess. That means looking at dates and getting rid of outdated items in cupboards and pantry.

Why become more organized. The cleaner more organized your living environment, the more smoothly life goes for you. Doesn’t that sound good.

To become really organized your focus has to be on doing one thing at a time. Finish! Finish! Finish!

Start your project.

Think about a chart with the assignments written on it.

Plan a time to start and finish each part of your cleaning

Plan a 2nd day to start and finish, if the first day was not enough

Plan a time to go and purchase new containers if needed.

Make sure someone has the job of wiping down each cupboard before thing are put back in the cupboard or pantry.

Make sure someone has the job of wiping down the refrigerator before putting items back .

Know who is coming to help for sure.

Be sure you have some food for everyone.

Finish before everyone is so tired they can’t move.

Good luck with the organization.

Going to use my Thieves for this project

Thieves, from Young Living is what I am going to use to really clean some of the areas discussed in this blog.
Have used it on spots on the carpet, areas where puppies have had accidents and it really does the job.

Grocery shopping and my rice pack!

My plan to start the week. Monday morning going to the grocey store. Made my list and thought ok, I will wear my mask and put on gloves, the thin ones that don’t make me look like I am from mars. Already have that look with not being able to go to the hair dresser.

7AM with my mask and gloves on, off I went to the store, list in hand. It took me an hour and a half to find everything I needed. The store was out of some things that I needed, but that was ok. They had alot of people stocking shelves. Then off to the check out, where I had to pack most of my own groceries. The cashier helped a bit and I was truly thankful. Then of course, I had to put everything in the car. Drive home and unload the car. Just had seen a video on wiping down everything you bring in from the store. Stop right here. Please God I am not wiping down everything. Got everything out their bags and put away. It seemed like forever. I am thinking curbside shopping here I come.

Treated myself to a good cup of coffee. Put my nice rice pack on my neck and right shoulder and relaxed. Those rice packs are wonderful and I just warm mine up in the microwave. They are so comforting when you have those aches and pains that bother us all at times.

For a long time I have thought that grocery shopping was a big job, but we have to have food, so I am not complaining, just expressing how I felt at that moment. Exhausted! Nap time was wonderful and I so much enjoyed mine. Again my rice pack felt so good. The one showing needs a little more rice in the ends, but I will take this one anytime. Want to know more about making rice packs send me your email and I will try and answer your questions. One Christmas helped grandchildren make them for their parents. That was interesting.

Hope you have/had a great day. Here are some things to consider doing, find a new book, a new author to read, do a craft, write a letter, send a card, say a prayer, call someone you have not talked with in a while, start getting pictures ready to start a scrapbook for your children, grandchildren. Looking at those pictures will put a smile on your face.

The beautiful flowers were from daughter Cindy and husband David for Easter! Beautiful and I look at them every day and smile.

Enjoy looking at my website. Don’t forget to read about my essential oils.

Mother’s Day, are you wondering what will be happening? I am!

Honestly believe both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day should be remembered in some way. I don’t mean run out and buy a lavish gift, that you can ill afford. No, I am talking more about memories of some kind, maybe an item that the family could go in on together Something that does not overwhelm the budget.

I have spent Mother’s Day and also Father’s Day alone in the past, because we always had jobs where one or the other of us had to work. We did not call off because that was not our nature. Rotation of weekends and holidays was normal. Social Distancing is still with us this Easter and everyone needs to step up to the plate and remember that. Party’s can be planned for later.

Anyway I digress. Back to affordable gifts What about nice handmade cards? What about a nice family breakfast after Church? Even if church is online. A breakfast where everyone is up and smiling. Smiles mean so much. What about I owe you 10 sessions of lawn mowing over the next 10 weeks.

Here are some good ideas from Amazon one more appropriate for mom. Maybe you can look around and find a nice hat for dad also. Storage for deck, both would like.

Season overwhelm! Yes or No!

Overwhelm, overwhelmed, I have seen this word used time and time again since Thanks giving preparation began. Everyone was working so hard to get someone online to take notice of all the wonderful things digital , toys, clothing , electronics they had to offer. So many phenomenal offers.

I personally not only felt overwhelmed, but frustrated, anxious and almost guilty that I could not purchase some of the courses, crafts, books and other delights that were awesome. You notice I said could not, really the correct words should be would not! WHY! I had not met my goals for the year yet and too much money going out and not enough coming in.

RECOMMENDATION FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS.

  • Sit back and take a deep breath.
  • Evaluate the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year.
  • Weed out those not working. Be honest with yourself in determining why they are not working. List the pros and cons.
  • Determine if buying another course, e-book , plan is what you really need right now. Have you used the last one you bought?
  • How is your budget doing. Are you within the range you set last year for education?

After answering the above. Check out your goal planner for next year. What do you need to change or fix? Make sure 2020 starts out on a positive footing for you.

Invitation to click and follow my blog. Would love to have you comment and join me. Perhaps limping along together is better the limping along by yourself. Good Blogging for the year 2020.

Holidays, be organized, come up with some surprises for everyone.

The food is done, the kitchen is cleaned and you find your family is getting restless. So be prepared. Have everyone put their cell phones away. Turn off the TV, let the fun begin. You are ready for the troops no matter what Your part is to do the work before hand. What do I mean by work? You have been working your little tushie off. Thank you.

BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS

Lists – you must use lists. It has become priority for all of us. Menu list, shopping list for holiday groceries and of course the gift lists. Add to that list any school and church functions, dance recitals etc, so you do not miss anything.

Charity – Come up with a charitable ideas for the holidays, such as feeding a family, donating time to a soup kitchen or organization serving a Thanksgiving or Christmas meal to the needy.

Christmas list – be very specific about how many gifts and the cost of each. Older family members can be very helpful, if they have done their research on where to purchase. Make it a fun thing especially for the younger ones. DESIGN A LIST FOR EVERYONE TO USE. CALL IT THE CHRISTMAS LIST. Could even do after eating on Thanksgiving if you have no guests.

Remember what traditions your family loves and even if they are lots of work do them. However assign jobs early so you all can enjoy.

Come up with some fun game- Thanksgiving or Christmas bingo. Come up with your own question and answer game. Play a hidden treasure game with the little ones. Hide one of the stocking stuffers you got for them.

Purchase all your supplies timely so you are not running around at the last minute.

ON THE HOLIDAY

REMEMBER WHAT THE HOLIDAYS ARE ABOUT. A blessing for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Set the table, make it pretty and memorable. Have your younger ones display their holiday designs on a poster board for everyone to enjoy.

After eating and cleaning up. When that restless time arrives, start with your game surprises. If you are lucky it may snow and you can include sledding and of course ice skating. Hot chocolate before bedtime and the end of a perfect day.

Just a thought to end with. Throw in a visit to those who cannot join you. Call those who are far away. Remember someone who is lonely.

Changes, elimate or lower stress.

Original blog 12/7/2018 Updated 7/12/21

Stress, are you overcome by the stress in your life?  Do you think you can not handle another day like the one you just had?  Dirty dishes, laundry, kids not behaving, car not working right, rain and more rain, bills to pay. You get the picture.

How can you help yourself?   By becoming more organized!  You say to yourself, boy I have heard that before and I tried to do that but it did not work.

My question to you is how long did you really work on it?  Really work on it!  Write down what you want to accomplish and why.  What difference will it make in your life?

It does work, but it takes lots of consistancy, persistence and fortitude.  It takes you saying to yourself, I can do this and i a going to do it.

Try to pick one thing each day that you can accomplish. Even if it is a small thing. For me that would be giving the bathrooms a cleaning.  Then daily making sure that they are maintained.

Make your bed daily, even if your bedroom is not picked up.  It is a start toward becoming organized.  Then focus on getting clothing picked up, laundry done, maybe not all done, but at least a load a day.  Your goal is to wash, dry, fold and put away.

Involve your family in your move to become more organized.  Don’t become discouraged, keep plugging away.  Show them you are not going to stop.   Meeting with resistance, just stay focused on your goal/goals.

Meal planning, grocery shopping and cleaning the kitchen.  Always a job.  Clean that kitchen right away after meals.

Pain, pain!  You are right it is a pain, but once you see you are making progress, you will feel so good and you can really get better at organizing your blogging, printables, sewing projects, and volunteering for some charitable project.  BE READY TO ENJOY FALL!
