Aging Gracefully, a life style challenge

Not too long ago I decided to start a tribe on Tailwind, (which I love) and see what would happen. The name of my tribe is -Aging Gracefully, a life style challenge. So far, nothing, but then I am optimistic things will turn around. They always do, maybe not in the time frame I would like. Waiting is hard to do for all of us That brings to mind a gentleman waiting for the elevator, which was not very speedy, so he was banging on the elevator button. Now that was really going to help matters. Patience. Aging is like a kaleidoscope, ever changing.

Just going to talk briefly about when you are in your 20’s and 30’s.

When we are young, we look at the world with a different mirror, believing we would not grow old for a long time. We have lots and lots of time to pattern our lives and maybe we do/did some very foolish things. Think about what needs changing, or what you would like to do differently.

In our 20’s we are trying hard to find a profession, job that will bring us lots of satisfaction and make money. A difficult time, just got out of those teen years, that made you want to tear your hair out at times, now your world is changing. People you thought were friends you do not even see anymore.

In our 30’s we really would like to get married and start our family. Bringing children into the world is an awesome responsibility. It means your focus in life in life changes. Now you are about to become a parent . Another phase of life and all of a sudden a really different world appears. You learn what it means to be pregnant, how to prepare for the new life you are responsible for. What being healthy means. How important it is to work as a team surviving the first 5-6 months of being a parent. Just the start of things to come.

We will continue this discussion later. For right now determine what phase of your life you are at in your 20’s and 30’s. What is not working in your plan of life and how can you change it Your thoughts, your partners thoughts and what needs to change.

Will always find me talking a bit about Young Living Essential Oils and how great they are. Interested in learning more, add a comment and I will get in touch.

Life is like a ski slope, sometimes you just go in the wrong direction.

Life is like a# ski slope, it has it’s ups and downs. Some times the ups are wonderful, sometimes they are just as upsetting as the downs. The first time you ride up in the# ski lift you are excited, scared, afraid of making a fool of yourself, but determined to ski down that slope.

I remember when one of our daughters was trying to learn to ski, she just could not master the pulley rope on the beginning slope. She just kept going back to the bottom. We all left her and she continued trying. By golly, late afternoon she finally made it to the top and all the workers came out and cheered her. She truly deserved that cheer. She never gave up.

Blogging is like that pulley rope giving us, ups and downs, It never gives up on us, but the critical key here is to keep trying. If your blog is slow, then figure out why it doesn’t become a snow board and take off. Take your blog apart piece by piece. What is my #niche? What don’t I truly understand and what can I do to better understand? Who really is my audience? It certainly is something most of us have to do.

You see where someone makes all find of money in such a short time, lets face it, we all say, why them and why not me? That is a good question. If you find the answer, please share. Keep trying, keep learning and keep having some fun .

Diets and more diets. Do you care? Should you care?

Who is talking about diets and for what reason. There are diets, numerous diets and diet plans all over the internet, in magazine, on televisions, in books. You name it and there is a diet. Some are fads and should really be checked out before you run out and buy all kinds of things you will probably not use. Some of them are self explanatory, but most are not.

What would you do if your physician, health care provider said you must go on a special diet? Maybe he or she has said this more than once, but serious time is here. Health issues are becoming complicated . Maybe it is not you personally that needs the diet, but one of your family members. So what happens next:

Do you make the appointment for the consultation or does your physcian’s office do that? Many physician’s offices, health care provider’s office will set up the initial visit for you.

What is your understanding of why the consultation is needed. Has your health care provider explained this well to you?

Be prepared with questions about the diet you are going to be following . If you don’t understand something, ask more questions.

Who does most of the cooking at your home? The grocery shopping? That family member needs to go to the appointment with you. If this is a child needing a special diet, make sure if they are old enough, they can ask questions and understand what is going on.

Families have to be involved also, as what the family is going to be eating may not always be liked by everyone. Resentment can set in.

Family member on the diet has a big job to do also.Thankful that the family is helping, willing to get on board with the diet and not negative when the food is put on the table. Thank you, a big thank you to the person involved in the cooking. Be helpful not resentful.

Support is the key word here. Get involved in a support group. Help plan meals. Be compliant with the diet.

Buy back your health.

Buy back your health, is that what you want to do? Can you do that? Sometimes the long wait of no life style changes has been too long! Unbelievable thoughts!

Are we as a society just lazy or are we so busy trying to keep up with everything that how and what we eat becomes a bad habit. How often do you go out to eat? When you look around in the restaurant, do you wonder where everyone gets the money to eat out . Do you ever wonder what would happen if you walked through the restaurant doing a brief survey, asking two questions only -1- Why are you eating out tonight? 2- How are you paying for this meal? Shocking, the nerve, out-of-this-world. You would probably get thrown out and told not to come back again. Plus the whole restaurant would be staring at you.

Diet plays such a big part in our overall health and it is so difficult to find and stick to the right type of diet. It requires work and thought. Require families working together to make it easier. Planning a weekly menu and following it along with beginning an exercise program are sometimes next to impossible. It is like a mountain in front of you that needs to be climbed.’

Begin by changing your life style. A meal out becomes a treat. Planning weekly menus becomes a game and you and your family are the player, players trying to win the game. Save, save those recipes that you enjoy. Plan a snack for those times in the evening when you need a small treat. Tiny steps in the right direction. Now you can add another piece to your game. Exercise.

Whether any of the essential oils can help you with weight loss is something that again I say requires research. You want to understand the benefits of those essential oils.. Discussing this with your health care provider, especially if you are on medication, a must.

Case managers!  What is/are their roles?

Their role is to follow up, either before, during or after a medical event. That is their job! Problem is to learn how to work effectively, efficiently and pleasantly with them.

Just sat down to watch your favorite TV program or supper is ready and you want to eat before it is cold. The phone rings and it is your case manager!  Oh no, but remember this is his/her job to be sure you are following the directions given to you by your physician/counselor.

Case Managers job is important so why not compromise with he/she and set up a plan that is workable for both of you.

  1. Establish an appropriate time for the call. Find out if this call will be weekly, monthly or otherwise.
  2. Find out what information will be needed for each call, such as blood pressure readings. Maybe you are working on a weight loss plan and your case manager/case coordinator needs to know number of pounds lost or gained.
  3. What about balance issues. Will this be a topic of discussion during the call? Do you use a cane or a walker?  Have you fallen?
  4. Is physical therapy necessary due to your condition? Be ready to discuss briefly, but truthfully.
  5. Counseling? Considered part of the plan or not? Was it recommended as part of your care plan?

OK! You have a case manager!  Be prepared for the call.  Discuss what else is available, if current plan is not working.  Always be sure your options are covered by your health plan.#casemanager#casecoordinator#healthplans#weightloss

Changes, elimate or lower stress.

Original blog 12/7/2018 Updated 7/12/21

Stress, are you overcome by the stress in your life?  Do you think you can not handle another day like the one you just had?  Dirty dishes, laundry, kids not behaving, car not working right, rain and more rain, bills to pay. You get the picture.

How can you help yourself?   By becoming more organized!  You say to yourself, boy I have heard that before and I tried to do that but it did not work.

My question to you is how long did you really work on it?  Really work on it!  Write down what you want to accomplish and why.  What difference will it make in your life?

It does work, but it takes lots of consistancy, persistence and fortitude.  It takes you saying to yourself, I can do this and i a going to do it.

Try to pick one thing each day that you can accomplish. Even if it is a small thing. For me that would be giving the bathrooms a cleaning.  Then daily making sure that they are maintained.

Make your bed daily, even if your bedroom is not picked up.  It is a start toward becoming organized.  Then focus on getting clothing picked up, laundry done, maybe not all done, but at least a load a day.  Your goal is to wash, dry, fold and put away.

Involve your family in your move to become more organized.  Don’t become discouraged, keep plugging away.  Show them you are not going to stop.   Meeting with resistance, just stay focused on your goal/goals.

Meal planning, grocery shopping and cleaning the kitchen.  Always a job.  Clean that kitchen right away after meals.

Pain, pain!  You are right it is a pain, but once you see you are making progress, you will feel so good and you can really get better at organizing your blogging, printables, sewing projects, and volunteering for some charitable project.  BE READY TO ENJOY FALL!

Old Recipes

Good Morning!  I hope everyone had a really good night’s sleep.  Even though I honestly do not enjoy cooking/baking that much anymore, I am going to try some of the recipes that were given to me at one of my wedding showers, many many years ago.  They are in the same recipe box (moved with us many times) same 3 by 5 index cards, some with evidence of baking on them, some barely readable, some signed, some not. Several of the recipes are for desserts and the word healthy is not written any where that I remember.  If a recipe appeals to someone, they can certainly try substitutions.  Healthy is good!  A few newer recipes may have been added.  This will be a novel, experiment in my ongoing journey with blogging, so stay tuned in.
