February – Right around the corner,Ground Hogs day, Valentine’s Day and Spring Cleaning!

February – Where did January go? Before we know it Spring will be here. When I was young our mothers always did what was called spring cleaning. Believe me we all worked. So I am thinking about my spring cleaning list or the big to do list. If you can not afford to get someone to assist you then start by doing the smaller things yourself. Be creative to see if you can get help from members of your family. Here is the list I have begun:

#Declutter#cleanclosets#paint#thinkaboutgarden#flowers
Declutter -That literally means getting rid of things. Like tearing up old lists, and other paperwork. Getting rid of old newspapers and magazines. Going through pictures, saving what you want and putting the others in albums. My office is a perfect example of something that needs decluttered. These are just suggestions and I am sure you have many more. Sometimes decluttering projects can cause big discussions between family members. Hang in there and think how good, how clean everything will be if you follow through.

Clean the Closets
Try on clothes that have been in your closet for a while. If you don’t wear them or they don’t fit anymore, put into a bag. When that bag is full, as fast as your legs can carry you, take it to the nearest thrift or donation center. Do the same thing with all your closets. Look at shoes, articles on the top shelves. We all know the routine but you have to start and follow through.

New Paint? – Inside or out! What colors! Inside you need to think what preparation has to be done if painting is the name of the game! Carpets do they also need shampooing after the painting is done?

Start your list for flowers and gardens. Many people probably have already done this. If someone is really passionate about gardening and has a green house or a basement to start seeds, they might already be doing this.

10 Things That Create The Enchantment of The Holidays – updated from December 2018

Enchantment what an awesome word. Wish we could box it up and let everyone experience a bit of it. Here are some of my thoughts on that enchantment for the young and the old.

  • Big shining eyes of small children filled with wonder.
  • Magic of making holiday treats-frosting cookies, licking the frosting off your hands.
  • Making kieffles.  Those who have been around our family understand.  Handing down a tradition.
  • Decorating the tree and house- Being allowed to finally put ornaments on the tree yourself.
  • Fascination associated with believing. You hate see it leave.
  • Learning the true meaning of Christmas-the baby Jesus in the manager.
  • Secrets –being let in on a grown up secret and showing everyone you can keep a secret.
  • Wrapping gifts- having your own wrapping paper, tape, ribbon and tag. Carrying your present so proudly to put under the tree.
  • Company-waiting for grandparents, family and friends to come. Enjoying being at home and having fun.
  • Sharing – Taking dinner to someone who lives alone, sending cards, getting to make your own cards to mail, going through your clothes and toys and donating them to a thrift store.
  • Admiration, praise and respect for those in the military and their families.  Praying for all of them.

It really is a wonderful time of the year.  Especially if it snows right around Christmas.   Christmas Eve always looks so pretty and peaceful if it snows just before Santa comes.  Like a live picture card.  No  ice please.

Always will remember the year when my mother had redecorated the bathroom in pink and black.  I know, but it honestly looked pretty good.  She was a delightful lady.  Anyway I digress her Christmas present from our father that year was a brand new pink toilet seat, in its place of honor under the tree.  It brought smiles to all our faces for many a year.

Memories are such fun!  Happy Holidays to each and every one.#families#wonder#ornaments#wrappinggifts#wrappingbiggifts#donation.

The magic of the world when you are young is so wonderful! It makes your heart glad you are there to see it happening. To believe or not to believe is up to you. The enjoyment you get from such moments make your memory box just flow other.

For many years one of our granddaughters would give us a jingle, asking to speak with Donald Duck. Of course, Donald duck would come to the phone. Donald and she would have a great conversation. She is and always has been a great Disney fan. Her husband even proposed to her at Disney in front of Cinderella’s Castle.
Anyway back to the story. One year when she called, my husband finally said, you know I am Donald Duck. Dead silence on the other end of the telephone. She never called back and asked for Donald Duck again. Years later she told us it about broke her heart. #enjoyment#magic#believing.

Donald Duck cup for my husband brought back from a trip to Disney, many many years ago.

Now we have two great granddaughter’s whom we dearly love, even if it is not with hugs and kissing right now due to the pandemic. The oldest great granddaughter turned one in September and is trying to answer back her great grandfather when he talk’s like Donald Duck to her. It is so much fun listening to them. Right now she is enchanted with the Donald Duck cartoon. Especially the ones with his nephews.
