Care giver definition, a family member or paid helper who regularly looks after a child or a sick, elderly or disabled person. Found this definition online . Short and sweet.
Do you find that you are the care giver in your family? If so it is prudent to remember to wear your extra hats when undertaking any extra curricular activities, such doctor appointments, surgeries, and other specific calendar dates. Children in the family puts another hat on the caregiver.
Whatever your responsibilities in your job, you have to recognize you signed on for them. Job can be defined in many ways. You may be single, married , divorced, a religious, a medical person yourself, and you have to decide what your role is going to be.
I just finished a blog on organization and how important organization is to what is going on in your life. As a care giver I find organization very helpful to what happens next in our lives. Then there are days when I could care less.
The following is a list that I have added to a caregiver’s role.
- Clothes available for appointments
- Laundry kept up
- Meals planned ahead – That I do not do well
- If you have a job be sure and check with your boss about times off and how you will make up the time.
- Take time to relax.
- When going to appointments be sure you have the paper work done and take a medication list with you. Take your insurance cards with you just in case.
- When visiting a new physician be sure you have the names and telephone numbers of the other physicians involved in the care of the patient.
