Cold as it should be in January!

Personally I would like to see a little snow. Of course I say that softly as most people don’t want snow. Every winter needs some snow so we can have our fill of winter sports. It has been cold but really not any snow to speak of. Think how the kids feel that got new sleds for Christmas, a snow board or just a regular pair of ski’s. Such fun when you can use them. Winter sports can be exhilarating once you get the hang of them. There is nothing so nice as a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows to warm you up when you are finished.

So what you doing to help your kids stay physically fit? Do they have an exercise session in school or if they are schooling at home, what is the routine to keep them fit? Just think you might benefit from the fitness sessions yourself. When our grandchildren come over and they are getting restless I try to think of different things for them to do physically, such as go backward on your hands and feet trying to keep your butt off the floor. Here’s another one that might work, hop twenty times forward and then twenty times backward. Didn’t say I was a genius, just trying to keep them entertained.

Fun with the dog

What about finding place that you could set up, maybe in your lower level, where you could have a dog wash and offer a prize if the job is well done.

Supplies that you will need, be prepared. Head to Amazon and get everything assembled.

Has to be rules about keeping the place organized and clean, and the dog being really clean when finished. This has to include the place cleaned up before collecting the prize. Don’t forget the dog may need a blanket for awhile or a sweater, as they get cold also. How about tickets to the theater on the weekend to see a new movie, they really, really, want to see.

Think about all the exercise the kids are getting. A child who doesn’t participate do not share in the prize. Of course I didn’t say it would be fun for you, but we can’t have everything we want. Take one day at a time and enjoy it. Life is just too short.

Life and how to reflect on it!

Life and how precious it is! We all need to take some time to reflect on our lives . However, don’ t start dwelling on the past, as that will do you no good. Instead you need to think moving ahead what can I change? What are the things holding me back at the present time. If you have been seeing a counselor or therapist, what are the things the have been telling you to work on? Are you listening? Do you have good list started on what you really need to work on that will help you grow as a person? Are you learning to communicate well and be a good listener? Remember the conversation is not a conversation if those involved are not all communicating. Stop and listen, really listen to what is being said.

When we are little we can not wait to grow up. When we are teen agers we can not understand why the 20’s don’t come around sooner! We want to be treated like grown ups, but the consequences of our actions can really make your life change. Being a teenager should be fun! You should be involved in school.

When we are in our 30’s we begin to think life is running by and I am not even done growing up yet. I want to make a name for myself and have all the material things that everyone is so impressed with.

When our 4o’s arrive , our minds are whirling with questions? I was going to have a family! My career used to be so important? Why haven’t I been able to save money? Maybe your questions swing on the other side of the pendulum? Questions like my kids want to go to college, but should they go. What do they expect from college and will it permanently put a financial Knick in everything. How have they helped in preparing for college?

When our 50’s begin, all of a sudden you realized how important your health is. What have you been doing to keep the good health you have been blessed with. So many people in their 50’s begin to talk about retirement . Retirement, wait a minute you may live another 30-40 years? Are you prepared?

Continued another day!

Thank you, Thank you, dear family.

What has your life been like since Thanksgiving? Busy, busy and then busier than ever. I am sure everyone has their lists and then their mini lists that define everything on the bigger list. Not sure lists would have helped much here, but what needed to be done got done.

Our lives have been turned upside down. First, daughter had surgery, then I had surgery, then our son had surgery. Sadly next a death in our extended family. Add to all of the critic things, the internet going down, computers and phones unavailable and we broke my husbands printer, trying to undue a paper jam. All of these impacted us and when you are really involved life is super hectic.

In between all of this we had the Kiefle making party, which takes a lot of organization and so much help, when the family is as big as ours. This is something my husband wanted to do one more time and now the tradition has been passed down. Everyone that possibly could came and participated. Those that could then put up the Christmas tree. God Bless You. Of course we had the new puppy here and one of our great granddaughters who had a fabulous time.

The upside down bucket is finally turning upright and we sure hope it that way. The biggest thing needed during this time was patience, patience and more patience. Prayers also helped!. Lots of prayers.

We have a wonderful family who pitched in to help whenever they could, where ever they could, for as long as they could . That included taking someone to appointments and therapies, making meals , shopping and cooking, doing dishes, doing laundry and just listening. A special big big thank you to each and everyone of you. Our family has stayed together through thick and thin, some pretty big disagreements and these things listed above are what make a family a family. I am including our great sons in law, our daughter in law and the grandchildren who checked in and called to see that we were doing well. Thank you!

Short story to make you smile, our one son in law, who shall remain nameless, noticed how bad the shelf in the kitchen cupboard had become. It went up hill in the middle and had been that way for at least a year. It is my understanding that he took the shelf down ,jumped on it, turned it over and then proceeded to put it back in the cupboard. Of course he washed it good before the dishes went back on the shelf. Daughter helping him said it was pretty funny. Shelf is almost straight now.

A fantastic family photo from years ago at Christmas time.

Our family at Christmas time.

Essential Oils and labels

Are labels important! Yes if you want good quality essential oils. There are lots of essential oils out there and I really knew nothing about essential oils. In looking at labels for essential oils I used a Young Living label. Highest quality essential oils have this information listed. Not listed take another look, perhaps the essential oil might have been adulterated or could be an indicator of an essential oil of lower quality.

Here is what is on the Young Living Essential Oil Cypress Label

Directions clearly spelled out – 2-4 drops directly to desired area. Dilution not required, except for sensitive skin. Use as directed. Aromatic – Diffuse up to 1 hr. 3x daily.

Safety precautions right on label – Caution! Keep out of reach of children. For external use only. Keep away from eyes and mucous membranes. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication or have a medical condition consult a health professional prior to use. Good memory refresher and a reminder that safety precautions always should be followed.

Flammable – Do not use near fire, flame, heat or sparks. Do not store above room temperature.

Scientific name listed Young living Cypress – 100% pure therapeutic grade, essential oil 0.5 fl. oz (15 Ml). Ingredients – Cupressus Sempervivens’ (Cypress) leaf/nut/stem oil – 100% pure, therapeutic -grade essential oil.

Storage keep in cool dark place.

How is your life treating you?

This last month has been challenging to say the least. You just think you are getting things a bit more organized and then you realize how much more you have to do. Now the decision is what should you do next? Nothing! Tackle a small job!! Work each day on keeping things more organized!!! This is on you. How are you going to move forward?

You can write another list with numbers according to their importance and assign them or you could put assignments on straws and have family members draw a straw and be responsible for getting that chore done. You could try putting projects that need to be done in a box and have family members draw an assignment. Problem is some assignments may be tougher than others.

Halloween went by in a flash and Thanksgiving is running to meet us. Black Friday is being toted every day. It almost makes you feel like you need to put on roller skates to keep up. Everyone is having sales and more sales.

I remember when we all started Christmas preparation, not before Halloween, but after Thanksgiving letting families enjoy Thanksgiving . The weather would be starting to change. Originally coming from Iowa, I remember Thanksgiving with snow. It was so exciting. Maybe the Holidays were hectic, and only the good things remain in my memory bank.

What about a time out day! ! Even half a day Time out from everything related to a schedule, errands, work, school etc. Only relaxing fun things can be done on that day. OK, we probably have to put a time limit on that or the whole family will rebel.

Here are some suggestions for you:

Make your home smell enchanting . Purchase a diffuser and some essential oils that makes you like relax, such as lavender. Then relax.

Find someone to watch your little ones for a morning or afternoon. You will then pay them back so they can take a time out day.

Think, do you want a bubble bath, or would you rather go to a yoga class? Do you want a massage to work the kinks out of your neck and shoulders. Don’t forget the guys here maybe they want a day out also.

Maybe you just want to take a nap without interruption, listen to some nice music or read a good book. Treat yourself to lunch out. Do something spontaneous without worrying about having to pick someone up, take someone to a doctor visit etc.

Think how refreshed you will feel and you can begin again with renewed energy and confidence.

Essential Oils, a journal would nice.

Considering giving essential oils a try? It is alot of fun and certainly benficial to some. It all depends on what you are hoping to achieve.

I began using essential oils very slowly and now I’m really excited about learning more. Knew absolutely little about essential oils. Now use a diffuser with lavender at night to help sleep better. Some nights it works absolutely wonderful for me, but on other nights doesn’t work at all. Why?

Does the difference lie in what kind of a day, I had? Lazy and relaxed or very hectic with lots of stress? A day where nothing gets done? I honestly don’t know but since I don’t have small children I can’t use that as a stressor.

No matter what I want to continue to work and learn about essential oils. Work with people who are trying essential oils to find out if they are getting any good benefits . So I have an essential oil journal that I hope will help us all determine how and what essential oils benefit us and even why.

Fall is a good time to begin using essential oils as there are many essential oils that smell lovely and this is such a fun time of year for scents.

Think about using this Essential Oil Journal and see what you can find out:

  • Name of essential oil
  • date started
  • How many times a day are you using the oil?
  • Benefit of essential oil to you or person using it.
Includes cover, 2 sheets for benefits of oil, and 2 sheet for blends.

Stress, Are you stressed or not?

Updated from 2019

How do you define stress? How do you handle stress in your life? Do you recognize it?

Do you consider the following signs of stress:

Bitting your nails?

Overeating?

Unable to sleep?

Are you motivated to change.

I am an over eater. Not the eat healthy things, good for you types of food, but things like chips, candy and desserts. Food like noodles and potatoes. Good old comfort food.

OK you recognize yourself, a bit in what I am saying and know some type of plan is needed to change. A terrific, fabulous, entertaining, well I am going a bit overboard on this plan of action here.

Begin by what you consider setting some reasonable goals for example, instead of losing 10 lbs this next month, try for 5 lbs. Your goal is to really focus on keeping the weight o

Get the junk good out of the house. Keep your menu’s simple.

Don’t try the diet of the month or the most expensive diet. Try salads and more vegetables, but do things in moderation.

You can find menu’s listed in almost every book, magazine, on every cooking show. Find and do menu’s that you like and re-do them as you work toward your one small goal.

Stay motivated, keep it simple, be thankful for small improvements. Remove stress slowly, lose weight if that is what you want or just begin to feel better overall. One day at a time

Life in your home!

Written January 2020 Updated 9/14/21

Sometimes poor is a state of mind and other times we just don’t know how to manage our money and lives. How to say no!  We slide from one mess to another instead of taking time to focus on cleaning up one mess, before getting into another one.  Some families give the appearance, as do their children of being very wealthy, when they are living off credit cards, owe everyone, are scared to death of what the next day is going to bring.

Remind your children, grandchildren, stepchildren,  what they have to be grateful about such as:

A family that stays together, even when the going gets so tough.

A chance to pray! Reflect! Meditate.

A roof over their heads.  Utilities that are paid so you have heat in the winter, and are able to be cool in the summer.

A chance to save if you have a job.  Get a savings plan started so you will feel rich when you see how it has grown. It is called savings, savings, and savings.

Food on the table.

Pets and more pets and then more pets.

Clothing, maybe not the most expensive, but why would you want expensive anyway, in a couple of months you will have grown and need new outfits.

Friends who are allowed to come to your house.

Love from parents and grandparents .Love can be defined in many ways. Love may not be visable at all times but it is there.

Exercise, ride bicycles, help with laundry, keep the house clean  or work in the yard. Don’t forget to shovel the snow when it arrives. Don’t wait to be asked.

Journal about the above, what works and why it worked.

One day at a time!

Essential Oils, don’t forget to use them.

Essential oils can be used neat or put into blends, but you need to understand, which oils are capable of being used as stated above. Neat means the oil can be used alone. Blends are the oils which can be mixed together.

When using essential oils always remember less is more. Essential oils can be very powerful. It is very interesting to learn about them. When I read an essential oil article I am looking for how well the author can express themselves and how great their understanding of essential oils is.

I am certainly no expert but I am always trying to learn. Amazed when the light bulb goes off and I really get it.

Essential Oils can be an adventure for you. If you decide to try them, then be sure you don’t forget to use them. When someone tells me how anxious they are, how stressed they are, how much pain they are feeling, my suggestion is to try an essential oil. The biggest problem is the person keeps forgetting to use them. You at least a week to determine any benefit. Benefit good, you will want to continue with the essential oil.

Always consult with your medical professional if you have serious medical problems, or are pregnant.Do not use essential oils if you are pregnant. Don’t forget to include your mental health professional. Your health is very important and as we age we all realize how precious it is

Support! For a diet thought or two!

Originally written 7/25/2019 Updated 7/15/2021

Diet, oh no not again. However it is something that is very serious for many people. It’s not that you don’t want to lose weight, you do. You know what people, even family, say to your face or behind your back. So it is time to take the bull by it’s horns and begin all over again.

There are diets, numerous diets and diet plans all over the internet, in magazine, on television, in books. You name it and there is a diet for it. Some are fads and should really be checked out before you run out and buy all kinds of things you will probably not use. Expensive things that will just sit in your cupboard.

What would you do if your physician, health care provider said you must go on a special diet? Maybe he or she has said this more than once, but serious time is here. Health issues are becoming complicated . Maybe it is not you personally that needs the diet, but one of your family members. So what happens next:

Begin walking to help you relax, stay movitated and think about the following:

Do you make the appointment for the diet consultation or does your physician’s office do that? Many physician’s offices, health care provider’s office’s will set up the initial visit for you.

What is your understanding of why the consultation is needed. Has your health care provider explained this well to you?

Be prepared with questions about the diet you are going to be following . If you don’t understand something, ask more questions.

Who does most of the cooking at your home? The grocery shopping? That family member needs to go to the appointment with you. If this is a child needing a special diet, make sure if they are old enough, they can ask questions and understand what is going on.

Families have to be involved also, as what the family is going to be eating may not always be liked by everyone. Resentment can set in.

Family member on the diet has a big job to do also.Thankful that the family is helping, willing to get on board with the diet and not negative when the food is put on the table.

Thank you, a big thank you to the person involved in the cooking. Be helpful not resentful.

Support is the key word here. Get involved in a support group. Help plan meals. Be compliant with the diet.
