Essential Oils and learning about carrier oils.

As we continue our journey learning about oils, remember history shows us oil were used many years ago. May not have always been used in the best manner, but journals were kept to help the next generation move in an safer and more educated manner.

When I first was introduced to essential oils I really was not too thrilled. Did not even understand diluting with carrier oils. Thought to myself, are we talking about good old cooking oils? Little did I know.

Carrier oils are needed to dilute your essential oils, when dilution is called for in a recipe. Here are some of the carrier oils, I am trying when dilution is called for:

Avacado Oil- It is a high quality cold pressed oil. Can also be used as a moisturizer.

Fractionated Coconut Oil- a high quality cold pressed oil, good for healthy skin.

Grapeseed Oil – another of the highest quality cold pressed oils. Good for eye make up remover and as a conditioner for hair. Important to always read all instructions before using these oils to promote their suggested beneficial uses.

What does cold pressing mean? This is taken from An Introductory Guide Essential Oils and Aromatherapy- Sonoma Press. A carrier oil is usually obtained through a cold-pressing or expeller-pressing process that retains the oils natural color, scent, and constituents, some oils are obtained through maceration.

Maceration – is a process of extracting a plant’s essence by soaking plant matter in hot oil and rupturing the cell membranes. The hot oil is then strained to remove the plant matter, then bottled without further processing.

Take a tiny step forward and begin your oil journey trying an oil that appeals to you. Remember to review some of my previous blogs about safety precautions and oils.
