What do you think the woman in your life would like for Christmas ? If you honestly don’t know maybe the following might help you.

Essential Oils – Young Living is my oil of choice and I have had some really good results with ten oils I use. The are also many other good selections available for those interested. There are differs that would make wonderful gifts.

Got my teeth cleaned last week. A procedure I just dread. The hygienist had a scent diffusing in the treatment room. It was not a heavy scent and I found I was so much calmer while getting my teeth cleaned, which believe me is not joy.

Young living essential oils make a wonderful fun with a small diffusers and some really relaxing scents. Perhaps a scent to remind you of walking along trails in hiking areas. What about the smell of ginger essential oil that reminds you of old fashioned gingerbread cookies. Christmas spirit essential oil has a nice citrus smell . Clove essential oil is great. It has such a nice smell and is often used in a nice blend to alleviate aches and pains experienced as we age.

Cold weather is fast approaching and things that leave a cozy, marvelously warm feeling a fabulous idea. Young living might fit the bill with some lovely scents, nice makeup, any of their cleaning products and we can not forget the relaxation items, such as bath salts.

Thinking positively about weight and exercise!

Remember when you were young and you played hide and seek, or jumped rope? I even remember roller skating and it was such fun. Here we were exercising and did not even realize it. Swimming was another healthy exercise, and swim we did several times a week. I was never a tiny person so swimming did help me maintain my weight.

The seasons are changing, so fast it seems, even with our situation of having to wear masks and social distancing we need to be sure we are active and we (our family included in that we) are thinking proactively and doing something physical to maintain our health.

Magnificent positive, encouraging positive, active positive, thought provoking . OK I know enough about positive. However no matter how down in the dumps you are , take tiny baby steps, one at time to get into the right mood to begin. Start with watching what you put in your mouth and once you have that going , then think exercise. WALK, WALK. Slow walk, free swinging arms and walking, listening to music while walking, memorize your homework while walking. run and walk, slowly at first.

.Start journaling about what you eat. Be realistic and don’t tell fibs. Be honest.

  • Write down everything you eat or drink.
  • Include condiments you are using, how much and how often.
  • Look at portions. Look at big portions and think do I really need this? Look at what you are taking or asking for as second helpings. Don’t do it.
  • If this is depressing you, then remember baby steps, and you don’t have to tell anyone what you are doing, just do it.
  • Look at what time you are eating and if you can do anything about changing the times. Maybe that means helping with the preparation to get the meal on the table earlier.
  • When you reach a goal you have set, celebrate. Don’t go nutz just a small celebration.
  • Do not put off till tomorrow, what you can do today!
  • Smile and when someone says you look like you are losing weight, just say thank you and smile.
  • Helpful tips below:

Eggs a good source of protein.

Remove bun, cheese and ketchup and it would be acceptable..
No salt , no butter and a lesser amount, would be acceptable.

Good luck keep working on losing before the holidays?

Mindful Aging

A beautiful post written by our daughter Kathy . Thank you from me and Grandma also. She would have loved this. I want everyone to know the fence is painted!!!

It ties in with blogging and all the heartfelt work very dedicated people put into their blogs, day after day with no recognition. So recognition is great and makes one feel really good.

Mindful Aging

My mom is Barb, her mom was Helen. As I read Barb’s story about  “Comedy Relief-Painting The Fence” it made me think of her mom. Barb’s legacy is her purposeful choice to live every day as positive as she can and to keep going, even if it is in a small way, every day.  It’s hereditary, her mom, Helen, left this legacy to her family and friends.

First,  I have to confess, I told my mom to spray the fence! She firmly stood her ground and said she had a plan. She would tackle a little painting everyday until it was done. She blogged her story in July.

She is nearly done painting the fence.  A couple of people have helped an hour or so, but a majority of the painting has been done by Barb.

Standing in the back yard, looking at the fence and knowing the obstacles that she encountered makes me realize the strong, independent, stubborn lineage of woman in my family.  This fills me with awe and joy.

The first obstacle Barb encountered was the attack of the evil insects that peppered her with bites. Bites that stubbornly itched and lingered for weeks afterwards. The bites were sustained while painting the fence behind a bush. Barb was miserable but undaunted.

Another barrier was the blazing, tropical like  heat of August. My birthday is in August, my daughter was born in August. August is flipping hot!  Painting in the heat of August has to be as uncomfortable as being pregnant in August. Barb didn’t let the heat derail her end goal of a hand painted fence by September.

The most recent hurdle was painting the fence behind the raised, rectangular, wooden garden box that is partially surrounded by lattice at the base. Barb crawled underneath the garden box and painted the fence! Age and arthritis did not stop her progress.

Strawberry patch looking sad right now. Almost time to cover.

My mom chose to set a goal, break the job into smaller, manageable tasks, and tackle the job. The secret to her success as a woman is her mindful choice to live  life on her terms whenever possible.

Her mom, Helen , a breast cancer survivor, decided to take piano lessons and tap lessons as she was aging. The vague memory of watching my 71 year old grandmother on stage at a tap recital surfaced when I read “Comedy Relief-Painting The Fence”.

My goal is to age as they have shown me through their actions and to pass the gift to my daughter, daughter in law and future grandchildren.

Kathy (the second oldest of the six kids)

Autumn and Essential Oils

Essential Oils have become a part of our lives. That doesn’t mean we don’t take our regular medications or follow our physicians recommendations. Our journey with essential oils has come about slowly and we are researching what we use.

Have found cloves, peppermint and lavender a great blend to help with arthritis pain and pain associated with your neck and shoulders. Again not a cure all but certainly does get relief if it is used properly. That means not starting at the bottle or wondering if you should try it or not.

Used essential oils to help relieve the nerve pain, experienced by my husband after his bout with shingles. I am not making a cure all statement, just stating a fact the he had good response with the oils in relieving the chest pain. The relief is for several hours and then the burning returns. It seems to be improving each day, for which we are so thankful. You can tell when the burning does return.

If your physician tells you to consider getting Shingles vaccine be sure you consider doing that as you do not want to get shingles.

Autumn and fall right here with colors changing so we are going to try and use some new oils such as

  • Cinnamon Bark – Doesn’t the name alone make you think of Autumn and hot cinammon doughnuts? This essential oil might be helpful in an infection disease situation caused by a germ or parasite.
  • Peppermint – Long used to help with digestion, minty odor.
  • Cypress- Just sounds woodsy! You know that smell you notice when walking through a woods. Might be helpful to improve your circulation. Going to try it.
  • Eucalyptus Blue – sounds interesting doesn’t it. Maybe it will be helpful with your breathing?
  • Stress Away – need I explain further. You might be surprised.

Always important to be aware of any side effects that might occur when you are trying a new essential oil for the first time.

  • A skin test to make sure you are not having any reaction to the essential oil. Just a small amount on your skin. Don’t use water to wash it off. Put a little cooking oil on the spot, if you have a reaction.
  • Always store your essential oils in a dark cool area.
  • Do not use your essential oils on children, infants without reading all the information about using an essential oil.
  • Just like so many other things you need to be informed and safe.

Hope you will try Young Living essential oils. May cost more but quality is good.

Budget and actually becoming a more frugal person.

Please read Blog -Budget key to learning to live frugally first.

The two words in my title, go hand and hand according to my way of thinking. You have to remember that in both situations you need to avoid going overboard. So lets take a further look at budget and learning how to be frugal.

Practice budget- add to and delete if necessary.
Selections from barb resource library

When you are ready to do an intense budget you will want to add to the simple budget above. The password to the selectionsfrombarb resouce library is HELEN.

Let’s take the word FRUGAL AND SEE WHAT WE CAN COME UP WITH. The one thing I thought as I was doing my research was that I would hate chicken if I followed some of the menus. I love chicken, but enough is enough. My opinion only, each person has to decide what is best for their family.

F= food and learning to be flexible. You don’t want a total rebellion in your family?

R=realistic. It will take time to learn this frugal thing.

U=useful. Get your family involved. Encourage them to plan menu’s that will help in maintaining or lowering your food budget. Explain you can not impulse shop, so menu planning has to be done.

G=gardener. Is it time to plan a garden? 2021 is that the year for you to begin anew.

A= animals! Don’t forget your animals when planning your budget.

L=learn . What an opportunity to learn. Why eating out can be very expensive. Menu planning. How to shop with a list and buy only what is on the list. Where to look for the best buys. Become inventive! Become a shining example to others.

Good luck on beginning. Don’t think failure, not in your vocabulary. Think about your future and how you would like to live. Plan, Plan and then keep learning.

Always have to mention my young living essential oils. They have been an asset to our lives.

Empower, what an electric word.

While I think it is very important to empower men, women, individuals, young adults I always wonder what is going on with peoples live’s behind the scenes. Where are they at in this journey we call life and what is one is willing to change.

Were you part of the peaceful protests held recently ? Or were you part of the looting, wrecking of businesses, injuring of people? What did that prove, how did that help the murdered black man and changing our society that needs to be done? How can you call yourself an adult? How did that go to improve the situation and what is your conscience telling you?

What happens to our black community is really sad and what has happened to our police force in some communities is also sad. Society, all of us included need to change our thinking on many topics. We have all heard and seen things over the years that we knew were not right. Not having a police force would be catastrophic as proven by the rioting we have seen recently. Do changes need to be made, absolutely and what are you going to do to help make things better?

Empower what does that word mean to you? Word defined in Webster’s New American Dictionary is-to give authority or power to; also enable.

Dreaming about empowerment means working hard to achieve the goals you have set for yourself and understanding it will take time to get to where you want to be. Add to your goals the question- what can I do to help change our world?

Think about the following:

Educate yourself, so you can understand what is going on in our government, our states and cities.

Do some volunteer work and talk with the people you are trying to help. What are their real problems and issues. How can you help them make changes.

Show respect for one and other.

Know what your teenagers are doing and where your teenagers are . Talk with them, listen to them, try very hard to set a good example.

Start now, taking one day at a time.

Essential Oils, shadow box and Mother’s.

This blog contains affiliated links. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. If you click on any one of my links and make a purchase, I will receive a commission at no extra cost to you.

The above affiliate statement applies to any affiliate.

Years ago a group of #crafter’s made what were known as shadow boxes. Made one for my mother and my mother-in-law, Still have the one I made for my #mother and thought about her this last week. The shadow box is so old now and the velvet ribbon around it is faded and worn. The corn husk dolls, were supposed to be very complimentary to the person receiving the box. Mother loved sewing. Looking at this shadow box made me think what would happen if your #essential oils just sat inside of a box like this. The corn husk dolls the clock and the floor look like new. I am sure they are tired though.

Essential oils, think how they could relate to a# box, # shadow box or any kind of box. They are meant to be used with knowledge and with a good sense of any safety precautions listed. If they just sit in a box, they become old and tired.

If you have been experiencing sleepless nights, anxiety, muscle pain, joint pain an essential oil might be of some value to you. Just looking at them you will never know. Using them is like an adventure, taking a trip, walking down a new avenue.

If you have been experiencing sleepless nights, or joint pain, muscle pain, or anxiety, trying an essential oil may help.

Helping you to keep track of the pros and cons of using #essential oils. try a journal. Working on something I hope to have available soon that could be helpful.

Have an awesome day!. Smile! Be adventurous! Try something new, even something like painting, drawing or just plain reading. #mother#box#essentialoils#sewing#crafts

Essential Oil recipes to try for headaches.

I can not take credit for these recipes for headaches. Passing along recipes for headaches found in various books for people to try.

Hoping that one of these recipes might benefit someone who suffers from headaches, that can be very incapicating. There are different kinds of headaches, cluster, sinus , migranes and the stress tension heache.

You have to know your own body and what the triggers are that set off your headaches and if one of them is a scent then you want to avoid that scent.

The benefits of the blends of essential oils may differ with each individual person. Some people get great relief and another individual might only get minimal relief. You need to remember to benefit from the use of essential oils you must use them. If the oils just sit there and look at you, how will you ever know what helps.

  • Tension headache – 10 drops peppermint, 10 drops eucalyptus, 20 drops of a carrier oil.
  • Migraine headache – 3 drops lavender, 4 drops roman chamomile, 1 oz carrier oil.
  • Sinus headaches – 4 drops spearmint, 4 drops eucalyptus , 1 oz carrier oil.

When using essential oils for the first time always do a skin test to make sure you do not develop a skin irritation .

Life, how interesting, strange at times, but interesting!

Life is interesting, sometimes challenging, but interesting most of the time. Of course you have to want it to be interesting. At my time of life I could be sitting abound feeling down in the dumps and doing nothing, but here I am learning to use my new sewing machine, writing a blog and learning , learning and learning.

We all have to determine what we consider interesting and I find a good way to do that right now is to observe the people on TV who are trying to bring us information on a daily basis. They report and our job is to sort out what is fact and what is not? What is relevant and what is not. Hard job for all of us. Harder still to keep our mouths closed if we really do not know what we are talking about.

Some thing else I have found to be interesting at this time, is guessing why some of the people I see are on the road. My reason for being on the road at 5:45AM is to get my husband to a treatment center for his appointment and picking him up, later in the morning. I always hope the people out and about are in essential jobs and then I wonder what some people consider essential.

Just my thoughts. Be safe! Don’t forget to check out Young Living essential oils, listed below.
