Grace When Losing in Sports

Grace When Losing in Sports

Well, the Pacers did not win, but they sure played their hearts out. The stands were loaded with fans, most of whom were standing for the whole game. Sports are nice, but tough to adjust to when your team is losing.

I feel bad for any team that is always losing, and no one seems to care. Big teams, professional teams, children’s teams, any team – it doesn’t matter. Always remember to make the losing side know that you care. It is important for self-image. Try to make everyone feel good that they tried and did their best. Encourage them to keep learning and improving. Also, coach them on the etiquette of being a good sport.

Life is like learning to be a good sport. Some days are wonderful, and you feel good about everything. Other days are what I call “Drag Along” days that you wish would just fly by. But no matter what you do, they seem to drag along in slow motion.

When you wake up, remember that God is giving us another day to work on things. That is great. Decide what you want to change and do it!

I love it when sports leagues do not care about scores, make sure every child plays, and award all participants. There is a great organization in Texas called “Fun, Fair, Positive Soccer”. It is Co-ed or ages 4-18. Each player gets a uniform with jersey, shorts, and socks to start off. At the end of the season, every player gets a really cool trophy and a team party. I love their philosophy.

Appreciate comments as they may help me grow.
