While I think it is very important to empower men, women, individuals, young adults I always wonder what is going on with peoples live’s behind the scenes. Where are they at in this journey we call life and what is one is willing to change.

Were you part of the peaceful protests held recently ? Or were you part of the looting, wrecking of businesses, injuring of people? What did that prove, how did that help the murdered black man and changing our society that needs to be done? How can you call yourself an adult? How did that go to improve the situation and what is your conscience telling you?

What happens to our black community is really sad and what has happened to our police force in some communities is also sad. Society, all of us included need to change our thinking on many topics. We have all heard and seen things over the years that we knew were not right. Not having a police force would be catastrophic as proven by the rioting we have seen recently. Do changes need to be made, absolutely and what are you going to do to help make things better?

Empower what does that word mean to you? Word defined in Webster’s New American Dictionary is-to give authority or power to; also enable.

Dreaming about empowerment means working hard to achieve the goals you have set for yourself and understanding it will take time to get to where you want to be. Add to your goals the question- what can I do to help change our world?

Think about the following:

Educate yourself, so you can understand what is going on in our government, our states and cities.

Do some volunteer work and talk with the people you are trying to help. What are their real problems and issues. How can you help them make changes.

Show respect for one and other.

Know what your teenagers are doing and where your teenagers are . Talk with them, listen to them, try very hard to set a good example.

Start now, taking one day at a time.

Relationships! What is important.

This is an update from a blog originally written December 29, 2018. I figured an update would be good right about now as the cold and dreary days are starting to wear.

To me, the most important skill is good communication.  If you do not have this you are heading for trouble, even if the problems are small at this time, they  magnify themselves eventually.  All of a sudden you will notice an increase in stress, untruths being told, children getting involved and hard feelings evolving.

Ask yourself do you have the ability to forgive and forget? Are you able to rationally listen to what your partner is saying? Can you stand united, knowing you are able to talk things out?

Think about the following and then talk:

  • Do not talk when you are very angry or hurt. Walk away and cool down.
  • Do not go to bed without talking. At least begin to try and determine what the real problems are. You will not solve anything at this point, but you need to make a pact to talk further.
  • Do not carry a grudge! What does that help to solve? Communicate! Communicate! Take turns talking. You first, me second! Me first, you second.
  • Do not involve children in your arguments, until you determine if the children are all involved or is it one child who is the instigator.
  • If new family guidelines need to be established, you may need to get help.#good communication#grudge#angry#

A few good prayers might also help. They cannot hurt.

Parenting, not an easy gig, no matter what age we are.

Once a parent, always a parent. Begins at birth and ends when we end. Even when circumstances make the relationship very tense, hurtful and sometimes downright painful for everyone involved. It still remains you are a parent, maybe a foster parent, a grandparent or even a great grandparent.

We always want to make things better, like we were able to when our children were youngsters. We may try to tell our adult children (young adults) what they should do and why. So often that doesn’t help the situation and only time , perseverance, and patience will help bring about a resolution.

Parents , need many virtures, talents, strengths to help them. I have listed a few that may be beneficial to you.

  • Communication – not always an easy thing to do. Especially when you know your words are just hitting a wall.
  • Listen! Listen and Listen some more. Not easy when you have heard the same thing many times.
  • Patience- A tough one! One even now in my older years, I am learning.. Not always good at it.
  • Rules – Different for each age group but definitely needed. Learn by trail and error. Remember not to make the rules so rigid you are miserable trying to enforce them. Be sensible, sensitive and smart.
  • Love – Show your children lots of love! Some times that come with the title of tough love.
  • Pray! Then pray some more.

Hope you will find one of my suggestions helpful. Good luck.
