One big leaf left on our tree!

One big leaf left on our tree. There are a couple of smaller ones also, but this one is a big big one. It almost reminds me of a flower. You can see the leaves have not been raked up yet. On the list of things to do.

This morning we woke up to snow falling. The first snow is pretty and one of those things that make you feel awesome.

The snow has stopped and melted. It is wet and the wind is blowing. I took a picture of the this big leaf blowing next to a bird house and St. Francis. It reminded me of the old old song, I’m a lonely little petunia in an onion patch. I know you never even heard of that song.

It makes me think about feeling whelmed at times and wonder what to do next that makes sense. Everyone of us has what we believe are priorities but reality sets in and sometime these things just have to change.

Good key words here everyone will tell you and I, are focus, prioritize, organize, finish one thing before starting another, recognize limitations, be patient with yourself, be patient with those around you.

News flash, fun and family

Sharing some fun/exciting things with you – expecting our third great grand child. A boy would be nice, but little girls are always welcome. We are lucky to be able to watch one of them as she grows and develops, (Elena). Our other great grand daughter (Maria) lives far away so emails and texts are such a wonderful thing. Her parents are great about sending photos that make us laugh and smile.

I am in awe of how much the young absorb everything around them. I have very few toys left, but I do have some small animals Elena can play with. She has also fallen in love with an old apron of mine and wears it when ever she can. Her interest in different things is amazing, especially those that are a no, no. Once you tell her no, she is pretty good about just looking. One bad habit she has developed is a liking for potato chips. Takes after her great grandmother. We always check with Mom before letting her have any.

Life moves on for all of us. Some days you might wish you were young again. Other days you say no wouldn’t want that again. The main thing we need to remember is to be thankful for what we have and thank God daily.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Be safe!

Autumn with the trees changing colors fast.

Been a rainy weekend and beginning of a new week, not particularly cold but rainy. The trees are turning colors fast. Vibrant colors orange, red and yellow. Means there will be many leaves for some to rake. Lots of out doors work to be done. Raking, weeding, trimming, planting and for some of us we still have grass to get mowed.

It is so wonderful to watch the little ones walking in the leaves, trying to pick them up and move them around. Such delight on their faces. It must be wonderful to believe that much and enjoy things you do. It is a time to smile with them and hug and love them.

Good time to also get out your to do list. Instead of focusing on the holidays, just plain work on your house and get things taken care of that you have been putting off. How about your garage? Is it ready for the winter? Think about coming right into your garage in the bad weather. Look at things in the garage that are just waiting for you to make up your mind to do the proper thing like throw away or donate. I hope you are not someone who leaves things by the road side. Talk about helping the environment!

They always say if you have not used something in a year then get rid of it. It always depends on what that something is according to my way of thinking. It may be something I will always need. Don’t think like me, just begin and start pitching.

Do clean the garage if nothing else gets done right now. It will help with the coming season and give you a good sense of accomplishment

Hello Everyone! Hope you are surviving all the news?

If you never paid attention to the new before, you certainly should right now! Of course you will never know for sure what is real and what is not. Our world has certainly changed and you wonder from day to day what is going to happen next.

Thinking about what we can do as individuals to remain sensible, learn as much as we can if the subject is going to impact us or not, listen to both sides of an argument and define for yourself what is important

It is so important we all listen to what our children are telling us about the world around them and what they believe or what people are trying to get them to believe. How closely are you monitoring what social media is telling them, or the shows they are watching on TV or the games they are playing.

We all understand day to day living is not going to be a walk in the park or a piece of cake. Some days it does not matter what you do, things just are not going to be fine, especially where children are involved. What matters most is how you learn to survive those days without losing it totally. Sounds so easy but it is not and you have to grow into the practices you want to use to help those in your family, especially your younger ones .

Here some things you might think about and do if at all possible:

Take time to sit and talk with your children, listen carefully to what they are telling you. What is real and what is not.

Learn to think about what you say before you say it.

Practice what you preach. Talking about what you are going to do and not doing it means nothing.

Watching television and you find it objectionable to you, think about why you are letting your children watch.

What is going on at the schools your children attend? Do you attend conferences set up for you and interact with the teachers?

We all know that some people tend to lie very easily these days and not think a thing about it. If that would happen to be you, make a pact not to do that. You want to be known for your integrity.

The news is distressing , but we can all work harder to make the world around us better to live in.

Thank you for supporting my blog!

Thank you to each and everyone of you who like selectionsfrombarb.com. Thank you if you are now following my blog! I try to look at your information, blog, website and e-mails. It is really an interesting task and I take seriously those that I am supporting, I often go back to re-read something to make sure I understand what is your niche and how I can support you.

The more I learn the more I realize how much I do not know. I am a slow learner, but eventually the light bulb goes off. I am fascinated by what there is to learn and how quickly some people absorb what there is to learn. If you are a slow learner like myself, be confident in yourself that you can learn and keep trying. Make one of your goals for the next month a confidence goal, step up to the plate, swing the bat and accomplish one thing you have really been procrastinating attempting.

As we all know it is impossible to support everyone unless you have a vast amount of available cash floating about. We would all like the same thing, extra money to take care of those things that are staring us in the face. Things like maybe a new refrigerator, painting, new carpeting just to name a few. Extra money to help those in need.

I hope you are all enjoying what I write. Please let me know if there is something you are interested in that I might be able to write about. Planning on working on a sort of new venture for me. Printables! Hope I am not too far behind everyone else. There is great amount of information that has been shared. It seems like I am learning piece meal as there is always something I don’t comprehend.

Thanks again! God bless all of you and I hope you have a fantastic Sunday. A good thought for the day- If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. My mother used to say that all the time, she was a wise woman.

Reading the books I read many years ago.

Reading many of the older books I loved years ago, only now they are e-books and I am using a Kindle. So wonderful. When we could not go any where much during the pandemic, that Kindle was a saver. Extra special in our home was that my husband can make the font bigger on his kindle and read also. It has filled alot of hours for him.

Dick Francis, now deceased wrote so many wonderful books especially centered around horse racing and all the drama, excitement, fun, tragedies surrounding the lives of those involved in horse racing. Some of them I just could not put down because, I couldn’t remember the ending and wanted to know what happened. Some endings I did not like, but most of them I thought were fair and well thought out. Don’t know if racing is still so well attended in England now, but his books really reflex how horse racing used to be.

Another author I have enjoyed is David Balducci. Again I enjoy some of his hero’s /heroines more than others. Right now my favorite is Amos Decker. Such a good series. Start with Memory Man. The struggles of a good man, trying to stay a good man and live with the impediment he has, and also come to terms with the tradegy in his personal life.

Also reading about essential oils. Many interesting books to take advantage of and learn more about essential oils. Never too late to learn.

Budgeting and moving forward toward a more frugal life.

Is 2021 the year you are going to tackle an honest budget. If it is, then here we go with an updated budget.

Check your original budget reviewing what you have done so far. Make a list of what is missing. While determining that, here are some things to consider:

Budget key to learning to live frugally.

How are you handling birthdays, anniversaries, graduation, and other gifts

Car expenses and gas money! We had to buy tires for our car recently. Ouch!

Have you figured out how you will be able to save and where will you put that money so you can’t touch it?

Where are you putting things like cigarettes, adult beverages, pop?

Remember at the end of the month you should be breaking even, if you are really budgeting. In other words money going out should equal money coming in.

You should have no money at the end of each budgeting session.

Does your budget include making a list before going to the grocery store, drugstore, etc..

Charitable giving! Everyone should give something to the charity or church that touches your heart.

What about your health insurance? You can not afford to be without.

How are you handling school supplies, online expenses, tuition ?

Make a list for yourself that you can refer to as you begin to break down your budget more and more to include what for and where your money is going.

Pick one credit card at a time to deal with and then do that DEAL with it.

If you are planning a vacation when this virus is gone, will you be able to save the money for it?

Visit my resource library, found in the upper right hand corner of selectionsfrombarb resource library.

Redo the budget each month until you get one that fits you like magnificent sunglasses.

The magic of the world when you are young is so wonderful! It makes your heart glad you are there to see it happening. To believe or not to believe is up to you. The enjoyment you get from such moments make your memory box just flow other.

For many years one of our granddaughters would give us a jingle, asking to speak with Donald Duck. Of course, Donald duck would come to the phone. Donald and she would have a great conversation. She is and always has been a great Disney fan. Her husband even proposed to her at Disney in front of Cinderella’s Castle.
Anyway back to the story. One year when she called, my husband finally said, you know I am Donald Duck. Dead silence on the other end of the telephone. She never called back and asked for Donald Duck again. Years later she told us it about broke her heart. #enjoyment#magic#believing.

Donald Duck cup for my husband brought back from a trip to Disney, many many years ago.

Now we have two great granddaughter’s whom we dearly love, even if it is not with hugs and kissing right now due to the pandemic. The oldest great granddaughter turned one in September and is trying to answer back her great grandfather when he talk’s like Donald Duck to her. It is so much fun listening to them. Right now she is enchanted with the Donald Duck cartoon. Especially the ones with his nephews.

Autumn and Essential Oils

Essential Oils have become a part of our lives. That doesn’t mean we don’t take our regular medications or follow our physicians recommendations. Our journey with essential oils has come about slowly and we are researching what we use.

Have found cloves, peppermint and lavender a great blend to help with arthritis pain and pain associated with your neck and shoulders. Again not a cure all but certainly does get relief if it is used properly. That means not starting at the bottle or wondering if you should try it or not.

Used essential oils to help relieve the nerve pain, experienced by my husband after his bout with shingles. I am not making a cure all statement, just stating a fact the he had good response with the oils in relieving the chest pain. The relief is for several hours and then the burning returns. It seems to be improving each day, for which we are so thankful. You can tell when the burning does return.

If your physician tells you to consider getting Shingles vaccine be sure you consider doing that as you do not want to get shingles.

Autumn and fall right here with colors changing so we are going to try and use some new oils such as

  • Cinnamon Bark – Doesn’t the name alone make you think of Autumn and hot cinammon doughnuts? This essential oil might be helpful in an infection disease situation caused by a germ or parasite.
  • Peppermint – Long used to help with digestion, minty odor.
  • Cypress- Just sounds woodsy! You know that smell you notice when walking through a woods. Might be helpful to improve your circulation. Going to try it.
  • Eucalyptus Blue – sounds interesting doesn’t it. Maybe it will be helpful with your breathing?
  • Stress Away – need I explain further. You might be surprised.

Always important to be aware of any side effects that might occur when you are trying a new essential oil for the first time.

  • A skin test to make sure you are not having any reaction to the essential oil. Just a small amount on your skin. Don’t use water to wash it off. Put a little cooking oil on the spot, if you have a reaction.
  • Always store your essential oils in a dark cool area.
  • Do not use your essential oils on children, infants without reading all the information about using an essential oil.
  • Just like so many other things you need to be informed and safe.

Hope you will try Young Living essential oils. May cost more but quality is good.

Frugal! Living frugally, what does that mean to you.

We are all saying thank goodness this quarantine situation is almost over, we hope. Pat yourself on your back if you did a really good job of following the rules, with a smile on your face most of the time and a big thank you to everyone who helped us all.

The big word around is to learn to be frugal. So if you are going to try and do that I have a few suggestions listed below

Everyone is writing about, talking about # living frugally, but what does that actually entail? It is not something that is easy to do, it is like an #acquired taste and takes time to perfect.

Can you define frugal? Understand what it means to become frugal? One of the definitions of frugal is economical, thrifty. Right from Webster’s New American Dictionary.

Do you even have a working budget? Can you account for all the income coming into your home and going out? Are you prepared for a pandemic , such as what we just went through . What have you learned from going thru this pandemic. What has your family learned?

What I am doing is coming up with ideas of what being frugal means . They may be totally different from yours, however we all should know the basic is learning to live on less. Which is good as we in the United States sometimes waste more than we should.

Below are my thoughts. I hope they may be of value to you.

  • Shopping – do not buy non essential items when shopping. Things to wear or things for the home.
  • List – take a list to the grocery store. Trick is only buy what is on your list and retreat swiftly. What about a garden?
  • Budget as mentioned above. Key to learning how to live frugally! Break down income versus expenses. Takes some real soul searching to get this right. Lots of experts out on the internet who are good with budget areas.
  • Utilities- Get on the budget plan! You must however pay routinely on the budget plan. Miss payments and utility companies are not happy.
  • Car- maintain your car! You will not help your ability to live frugally with a new car payment.
  • Smoking, what a perfect time to consider stopping. Not the right time you say, but honestly when is the right time. Little story- I was a heavy smoker and needed to stop. Stopped cold turkey and a few days later, I found out I was pregnant with #6 child and promptly began gaining a lot of weight. Talk about not the right time. Let me say I was very difficult to live with. Good that came of that-A boy after 5 girls and I am so glad I stopped smoking.
  • Charity – don’t forget that part of frugal. Share what you can, it will make you feel better.
  • No job! Take a job, any job, to help you through these trying times.
  • Start an old fashioned, what I call a Christmas club and do not touch it.

Ok the above are just a start. I am sure you can add tons to this list. What a perfect time to begin, while you try to get your life back to normal. Take one day at a time. Don’t say it once say it as many times as you need. One day at a time.

Don’t forget to try an essential oil. There are really some great oils out there.
