FUN SATURDAY MORNING AFTER A NOT SO GOOD WEEK.

These last few weeks have been difficult, stressful, with a little anxiety thrown in there at times, but fun, laughable, enjoyable at other times. I wonder if others relate to these types of events.

Laptop still very new to me and have been having a difficult time adjusting to it. After having problems with it because I could not get into the laptop, I had to take it to the professionals to get it working. So pleased now with it. Using a mouse to make it easier for me.

Winter storms hit us and then we got a call from our daughter in Texas. Winter storms hit them and they had no power, no heat for a quite awhile. However they were lucky in that respect, because they finally got their power on. Next day she called to let us know their water pipes had burst and water was flooding their kitchen area and attic. She had sad stories, but also stories of the kindness of people.

Saturday morning my husband had invited 2 of our grandchildren (8 yrs old and 11 yrs old) over for breakfast and to play cards. They were a delight, helping to set the table and making Dzia’s (grandpa’s) special recipe for pancakes, little sausages and chocolate milk. Oz helped beat the eggs to add to the pancake mix. Nick took his tie off while he ate so he would not get it dirty. Cleaning the kitchen when we finished took a little bit more time, but the kitchen was clean when we sat down to play cards.

Nick dressed up with his tie

The card game we played was one my husband learned in occupational therapy at one time. lt is called kings in the corner. Simple to learn and fun for everyone to play. Have no idea who invented it. The boys then tried to educate us a bit on how much they knew about Chess. That did not last too long as they had a difference of opinion on what was a correct move.

We then watched a movie, considering that a little down time. When their Dad came to pick them up, we did tell Dad how good they had been. After everyone left we decided a nap was in order for us as it had been a busy fun morning and we were tired. It was worth every minute of the visit, as we had not been able to see them very much with COVID.

Recommendation for grandchildren’s visit

  • Be organized with what you are planning to do. Be sure you have ingredients on hand for what you are going to make for breakfast.
  • Let them help. I was truly amazed at what all they understood in the kitchen and what they could do. Setting the table, something every child should learn to do. We used paper plates and cups as they thought that was ok.
  • Think about when they get older and want to go to a friend’s house to eat.
  • Games , always have some games at hand to play.
  • Even had them do exercises on the living room floor .

Book Review – The Ghost & the Bogus Bestseller.

It is fascinating to see the number of people who are following, pinning this book.

I have been reading Cleo Coyle for a long time, but have never read the above. Vowed I would read so I could give my opinion. Actually a husband and wife team, writing the Coffee House mysteries and the Haunted Bookshop mysteries.

Book starts out introducing you to our ghost. A private eye in the years past, and then the story switches to the present where our heroine is in the book shop and the story starts.

Jack (the ghost) and Pen (bookshop owner) have an interesting relationship.

Plot of the story is very complicated and will keep you reading just to make sure you understand what is going on, with this bogus bestseller.

I have listed here one of the coffeehouse mysteries for your review.

Holidays, be organized, come up with some surprises for everyone.

The food is done, the kitchen is cleaned and you find your family is getting restless. So be prepared. Have everyone put their cell phones away. Turn off the TV, let the fun begin. You are ready for the troops no matter what Your part is to do the work before hand. What do I mean by work? You have been working your little tushie off. Thank you.

BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS

Lists – you must use lists. It has become priority for all of us. Menu list, shopping list for holiday groceries and of course the gift lists. Add to that list any school and church functions, dance recitals etc, so you do not miss anything.

Charity – Come up with a charitable ideas for the holidays, such as feeding a family, donating time to a soup kitchen or organization serving a Thanksgiving or Christmas meal to the needy.

Christmas list – be very specific about how many gifts and the cost of each. Older family members can be very helpful, if they have done their research on where to purchase. Make it a fun thing especially for the younger ones. DESIGN A LIST FOR EVERYONE TO USE. CALL IT THE CHRISTMAS LIST. Could even do after eating on Thanksgiving if you have no guests.

Remember what traditions your family loves and even if they are lots of work do them. However assign jobs early so you all can enjoy.

Come up with some fun game- Thanksgiving or Christmas bingo. Come up with your own question and answer game. Play a hidden treasure game with the little ones. Hide one of the stocking stuffers you got for them.

Purchase all your supplies timely so you are not running around at the last minute.

ON THE HOLIDAY

REMEMBER WHAT THE HOLIDAYS ARE ABOUT. A blessing for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Set the table, make it pretty and memorable. Have your younger ones display their holiday designs on a poster board for everyone to enjoy.

After eating and cleaning up. When that restless time arrives, start with your game surprises. If you are lucky it may snow and you can include sledding and of course ice skating. Hot chocolate before bedtime and the end of a perfect day.

Just a thought to end with. Throw in a visit to those who cannot join you. Call those who are far away. Remember someone who is lonely.

Bring Your Garden Inside! Top Products for Indoor Plant Care

I love house plants! It is essential to provide your plant with proper soil; drainage & moisture retention are most important for thriving, healthy specimen! My favorite indoor potting soil to use is Miracle-Gro Indoor Potting Mix 72776430 6 Quart (2 Pack).

This potting soil is great because it is incredibly dynamic & suitable for a broad range of indoor & tropical plants. Use caution with succulents, cacti, palms, and ferns, as this soil is developed to retain moisture better than other blends.

Plants take up alot of space, so its always a great idea to use hanging planters and baskets. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, they allow for more floor and table space in the living rooms of your home.

Umbra Triflora Hanging Planter for Window, Indoor Herb Garden, White/Black

The Umbra Triflora Hanging Planter is a great way to keep smaller succulents, cacti, & even kitchen herbs!

BBQ Supplies

Just at the grocery store and sort of listened to a gentleman telling a young lady how to tell a good steak and what to watch for when you are grilling. She was interested in what he had to say and bought herself a nice steak, which I assume she was going to grill.

Rained this morning! Actually stormed this morning and it is cooler this afternoon, so I bet many people will be grilling this weekend. Even if you do not grill a lot you have to remember what supplies are part of the picture, that might help make it a fun, filled event for all.

Safety first when you are grilling! Be sure a responsible adult is near the grill at all times to be sure no one gets burned.
